Patients and carers major concerns on UK health services

The RCN highlights a report from the Patient Opinion website issued in February 2011 that reviews patient and career feedback on health services the authors received over the last five years. There are comments on GP clinics, acute hospitals, mental health trusts, outpatient services and clinics. The most frequently cited concerns are staff attitudes, insufficient care or compassion, communication and responsiveness.

The authors argue that addressing these issues requires no major investment or fundamental change in NHS structure or policy. Their suggestions for improvement centre on increased utilisation of the internet in areas such as online feedback, greater personal communication and informing patients about local services.
