Publication Workshop by Dr Sofia Llahana

Date: 25th July
Time: 11.00-1.00 pm
Venue: Board Room

This workshop is relevant to anyone who has attempted or thought about (whether successfully or not) to write a paper for publication in the professional literature. It aims to provide participants with a framework for identifying a writing schedule, strategies for identifying the appropriate journal and how papers are structured.

By the end of the workshop, participants will have identified an idea for a paper, alongside an action plan for achieving their goal.

Preparing for the workshop:
Come with an open mind and a willingness to take part in activities and group discussion. If you have time, then identify a couple of papers you have read (or have stuffed in the cupboard for reading at some stage) that you liked and one that you didn't like and bring these two papers along with you.

Workshop 1 Outline: Subject to alteration depending on student learning needs

  • Introductions and welcome - why are you here?
  • What do you know about writing for publication? - what journals are you familiar with?
  • What makes a good paper?
  • What do you need to help you be a successful published writer?
  • Personal action planning and evaluation
