The UCLH Nurse and Midwife Consultants organised a conference related to Advanced Practice which took place yesterday within the Education Centre. It was supported by Sheila Adam, the Research and Education lead for Nursing and Midwifery at UCLH and the CNMR.

Key speakers included Professor Dickon Weir-Hughes, Chief Executive, Nursing and Midwifery Council, Kim Manley, Visiting Professor, Canterbury Christ Church University, and Katherine Fenton, UCLH Chief Nurse.

The audience was challenged to use advanced practice to improve the patient experience. This is within the difficult environment of demands for efficiency savings within the NHS. Delegates were encouraged to capture data about their practice to ensure they could demonstrate added value. It was also suggested they should be politically astute in promoting the value of advanced practice.

The event was well evaluated and the plan is to establish the conference as an annual event.
